Real Housewives of Incontinence?

Updated: Jan 8

ree

Ok, I'm not proud to admit this, but I recently got sucked into the reality TV world of the Real Housewives. I know…🙈

Why am I telling you this? Because across the 3 franchises that I've watched (again, not proud 😅) there's been one huge issue that's really frustrating and confusing me:

Leaking.

So many of these women are leaking when they laugh or workout, and while I'm super happy they're talking about it on a public forum because there should never be shame around it, I don't understand how these incredibly privileged and well-connected women haven't been told that leaking isn't normal! It's common for sure, but not normal.

I know there's a lot of drama that goes on in these shows, so maybe there's just no time for these women to go see a pelvic health physiotherapist or work with a trainer who can accommodate these symptoms. Or… maybe it's that even at the highest points of wealth and privilege, women's health still isn't prioritized and they still have to search high and low and self advocate to get help.

So, while I'm very aware that comparing Real Housewives to real life is pretty bonkers, assuming that there's a lack of support and awareness around women's health isn't.

One of the main reasons I started specializing in pregnancy and postpartum fitness was the lack of awareness of the resources, services and support that exist. So anytime I hear conversations about leaking, you better believe I'm going to chime in and do everything I can to let folks know that there's support out there and quality of life can be improved!
